I've got curly hair - the hairdryer I swear by to keep frizz in check is on sale (2025)

Regardless of whether you have 2A or 3C curls, if you are the proud owner of textured, wavy or ringlet-mad tresses, you'll know the pain, time and effort it takes to make your hair look somewhat presentable in the morning - ie less like an unruly home in which birds hatch their chicks. And to do that you need a good diffuser.

I am someone who knows this routine all too well as someone who has had a bit of a love-hate relationship with their curls over the - and it seems I’m not alone as a recent study by Bellissima shows that 52% of curly-haired women fall out of love with their curls due to maintenance. I tend to flit between praising them when they do exude the vivaciousness and volume of Julia Roberts’ mane in Pretty Woman (after using every Only Curls, Curlsmith and Hask product under the sun) and cursing them at the same time for being so tangled and knotty or, when they don’t play ball, for being flat, lifeless and boring.

But getting yourself a good diffuser hairdryer is honestly a deciding factor for which personality your hair is going to take. Having tried a number of diffusers over the years, from BaByliss’ diffuser attachment (which lasted me 10 years) to Curlsmith’s DeFrizzon Dryer, I got my hands on Bellissima’s recent compact Diffon Supreme, which has been described as a ‘holy grail for curls’ - and it's currently on sale for £89.99 down from £149.99 in the Black Friday sales. Naturally, I was intrigued to see how it left my curls. Safe to say - I was impressed.

Now, let me first tell you about the gorgeous design of this innovative hot air diffuser. The handle, which is unlike any hair-dryer I’ve had, looks like it’s been inspired by the Art Deco era with a ribbed golden coating. With good grip, the dryer is lightweight and is comfortable to hold (you won’t get a tired arm from holding this, that’s for sure).

Now, while the head is smaller than some dryers I’ve used, that doesn’t necessarily make it bad feature - it just means it can focus on specific areas more and make them even more curly, which is a win win.

The on-off button is on the bottom of the device too, rather than the side, which is a handy feature when you're mid flow and has a cold blast option as well as two speeds and three temperatures.

My only niggle with the device, after using it, is that the cold shot didn't actually feel that cold, it was more luke warm. Although maybe I just need to allow it to run for a bit longer on that setting to feel the full effect.

As for the technology and quality of the diffuser-hairdryer hybrid, the website explains: “Revolutionary Supreme Curl Flow technology is at the heart of this hybrid hair diffuser. Developed by leading engineers and curl experts, the Diffon Supreme guarantees the perfect combination of airflow and temperatures.”

It adds: “The ceramic technology and argan oil keep hair hydrated whilst drying. This allows for delicate drying that keeps curls intact.”

Testing this out first hand, I was pleasantly surprised with the heat the dryer emitted - it wasn’t roasting hot, as I’ve experienced in the past, so I knew it wasn’t damaging my hair that much, and it was pretty even. What’s more is it took me around 18 minutes to dry my entire head of hair - perfect as I was in a bit of a rush. Given, I’ve got relatively short hair, but even so, it usually takes me at least 30 minutes or more to dry it with a hair-dryer (hours if it dries naturally).

Designed with 12 long ‘fingers’, the diffuser definitely helped tease out the shape and definition of my curls without too much manipulation from finger twists, nor too much hold gel or mousse.

A lovely byproduct of the tool’s ceramic technology and argan oil was that, without needing to use too much product, my curls didn't finish with a halo of frizz. Revolutionary.

I was impressed that these curls were conjured up when drying my hair in a rush too - when I have more time, I’m excited to see how much more curly I can get my locks.

Available at Bellissima, Argos, Boots and John Lewis for £89.99 down from £149.99, the diffuser is a real treat for curly girls who want to experience bouncy, hydrated and highly-defined curls all day long.

Elsewhere, Curlsmith’s DeFrizzon Dryer and XXL diffuser, £159, is ideal for those with long hair thanks to its large dish. Alternatively, get Bellissima's Supreme Hair Dryer Diffuser here.
